The Marshall DSL15H sounds like an all tube amp should, but without face melting volume of its higher wattage relatives.
It is footswitchable between "Classic Gain" (Fender like clean) and "Ultra Gain" (Lead, distortion, dirty, JCM800, whatever.
.
.
).
Not pictured, but included in the sale is a footswitch for channel selection.
A back panel switch allows you to switch the power tube section between "Triode" (appx 7 watts) and "Pentode" (15 watts).
Because of the low wattage, many people would classify this as a "bedroom" amp.
I would not hesitate to use it at a rehearsal or gig.
Through my Marshall 2061CX 2x12 cabinet (Celestion Vintage 30s - pictured, not included but also for sale separately), it gets very loud even in the lower output 7 watt setting.
It's loud enough to use with a drummer.
The Marshall slant front 2061CX speaker cabinet in one of the pictures is not included, but also for sale separately.
This Marshall DSL15H has been modded by a professional tech.
The modification was done to achieve two goals:
- Making the high gain channel less bright so that switching between the "Classic" and "Ultra" gain channels doesn't require an adjustment to the shared tone knobs
- Reducing the gain on the high gain channel to distort less.
The Ultra Gain channel now picks up where the Classic Gain channel leaves off.
From the factory, turning up the distortion channel gain quickly goes to unusable amounts of distortion (for my taste).
If you Google "Marshall DSL15 mods", there is a lot of information about the specifics of the modifications.
